Israel will continue the destruction of Gaza tunnel
New Delhi (Reuters) - Israel will continue operations destruction of the tunnels during the 72-hour cease-fire in Gaza, said the United States Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday.
Kerry, who announced a ceasefire agreement Friday morning on a visit to India, said Israel and Hamas will "cease all military activities and both parties will not move beyond the current locations."
"Israel will be able to continue its defense operations in tunnels is behind the line, and the Palestinians will be able to receive food aid, medicine and additional humanitarian assistance as well as citizens who can take care of the injured," said Kerry told reporters.
A senior United States official said Israel would explain to the UN about where the lines are military in Gaza, AFP reported.
"They will continue to conduct operations to destroy the tunnels that pose a threat to Israel ... for the existence of the tunnels in the area of Israel in their lines," the official said on condition of anonymity that.
Israel launched a military operation in response to Hamas rocket attacks, which effectively controls the Gaza Strip, but recently vowed to continue operations until it destroys the tunnels where Hamas fighters can infiltrate.
